Sauerkraut Sausage Skillet

This sausage and sauerkraut skillet recipe is the perfect solution for the busy week night dinner rush. It’s a simple, hearty meal that even the kids will enjoy.

Servings: 4 People

Ingredients

  • 1 Tbsp butter, or oil of choice
  • 1 medium yellow onion diced
  • 1 lb beef kielbasa or sausage of choice if not precooked sausage, be sure to cook thoroughly first.
  • 16 oz sauerkraut homemade or store bought
  • 4-6 medium yellow potatoes cubed
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  • Prep all the ingredients by dicing the onion, cubing the potato and sausage
  • With a cast iron skillet on medium heat, add butter (or oil) to pan and let melt. Add cubed potatoes to skillet and cook until slightly soft, about 5 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  • Add cubed sausage and diced onions. Cook until onions are fragrant and translucent, and sausage is heated through, about 5-7 minutes.
  • Turn heat to medium low and add sauerkraut. Cook until just heated.
  • Remove from heat and add salt and pepper to taste.

Notes

If using uncooked sausage or bratwurst, cook separately first and then add to skillet with potatoes.
This recipe serves 4, but can easily be doubled or tripled to fit your family size.
